Pet Fixers 2020
Pet Fixers Spay/Neuter Program Neuters and Spays 683 animals in 2020
Great River Rescue acquired the Pet Fixers spay/neuter assistance program in early 2020. With the pandemic hitting the country, there was some question as to whether or not the program could operate. However, the program was able to get going with some pandemic related adjustments. After everything was said and done, a total of 10 clinics occurred with 683 animals being spayed or neutered. It took many people and support from the community to make all of this possible. Clinics were sponsored by various businesses, individuals and grantors such as First National Bank Bemidji, Dearholt Tax & Accounting, and the Petco Foundation. Many local restaurants donated meals and lodging for our volunteers and vets such as Erbert & Gerberts, Fozzies Barbeque, Dave’s Pizza, Giovanni’s, Super 8, and Country Kitchen. Dozens of volunteers donated their time and efforts amounting to an estimated 450 hours of time. Finally, the vets and vet techs spent their weekends traveling up to Bemidji, and working tirelessly to get as many as 80 pets spayed/neutered per weekend. All of these efforts helped keep our clinic costs low, translating to low service costs and accessible services to our community members.
Pet Fixers will resume again in 2021, possibly as early as April. Updates will be provided as soon as they are available. Please keep an eye on the Pet Fixers page for more information on upcoming clinics and registration.
