Shelter Assessment
Great River Rescue performs assessment of shelter operations.
The Association of Shelter Veterinarians (ASV) compiled the comprehensive Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters to help any sheltering operation meet the physical, medical, and behavioral needs of the animals in their care.
Later, the ASPCA created Shelter Care Checklists to help animal shelter organizations use the ASV Guidelines efficiently and effectively. The Great River Rescue Animal Welfare Committee took advantage of this document and conducted an assessment of shelter operations in early 2019.
The full report is now being used by shelter staff to make improvements in a wide range of areas. The report is also now available for public viewing. “We want to be transparent with the public,” said Executive Director Brandon Mustful. “We’re not perfect, but we are doing everything we can to hold ourselves to a high standard and be accountable to our supporters.”
