New Strategic Plan and Mission Statement

Great River Rescue Approves New Strategic Plan and Mission Statement

Great River Rescue, Bemidji’s companion animal shelter, has created and approved a new strategic plan. The plan is intended to provide guidance on operations to the shelter’s Board of Directors and staff over the next 3 – 5 years. It includes plans to potentially construct a new building, or remodel the current facility. Other initiatives include further developing the Board of Directors, improving the volunteer program, and increasing services to the community.

The Board of Director’s also developed a new mission, vision, and values statements to clarify the organization’s role and purpose in the community. Those statements are as follows:

Mission: Great River Rescue transitions dogs and cats to loving homes, serves as a community resource, and advocates for kind, responsible pet care.

Vision: Great River Rescue envisions a society of responsible animal guardians in which every animal is treated with respect and care.

Values:  Care, compassion and empathy for animals and people.

Accountability to high standards of professional and ethical behavior.

Respect and kindness with every decision and interaction.

“This organization needed new direction if we were going to continue to grow,” said Executive Director Brandon Mustful. “We are excited about what the future holds for us and we hope the community will come alongside us in our efforts.”

“It is exhilarating to work with a dedicated team as we develop attainable goals for the future of Great River Rescue,” said Board President Geri Hickerson. “Our new mission statement more clearly defines our purpose and we are optimistic that we will be better equipped to serve our community and the companion animals in need of our care.”

The new strategic plan is available to the public through the organization’s website at www.greatriverrescue.com. A hard copy could also be picked up at the shelter. For more information about how to get involved, contact Brandon at director@greatriverrescue.com.
