Renewing our Plan

Renewing our Plan

By Brandon Mustful

Time goes by fast, doesn’t it? It was only a few years ago that we, as the Beltrami Humane Society, created and unveiled our strategic plan. We’ve worked hard since the creation of that plan to follow through with the decisions we made. We changed the name of the organization, improved our policies and procedures, worked on developing stronger partnerships, improved our financial standing, worked to improve our image, striven to provide more resources to the community, and more. As an organization, we are proud of all that we’ve accomplished over the last several years. There were some things that we were not able to satisfactorily deal with though, and other things that we just didn’t have the time and resources to address. For that reason, it is time to develop and implement a new plan.

Over the past few months, the Board of Directors and I have already begun working on developing a new plan. We have reviewed our position as an organization and talked about who we are and who we want to be. We have begun reviewing who our stakeholders are and how we can better satisfy them. We’ve looked at our strengths and weaknesses as an organization and what opportunities exist for us to improve. We have even looked at our mission and vision statements and considered if they need to be adjusted to better reflect our goals. Soon, we will take a hard look at the strategic issues facing this organization and how we can address them.

On that note, this organization continues to face many challenges. We desire so much to save as many animals as we can and serve this community whole-heartedly. We are working to determine how much we can offer without overstepping resource constraints. We are thinking about how we can make this organization truly sustainable over the long term. We don’t want to be an organization that is constantly struggling to make ends meet. We want to thrive so that we can provide better care for more animals. We want our community to know that they can depend on us.

It will be a few more months yet before we will have our plan fully developed and available for the public to view. The Board and I will continue to meet together and deliberate what’s possible. We will be optimistic and shoot for more ambitious goals. Hopefully, we will have a plan ready by the end of year to guide us for the next 3 – 5 years. And, we eagerly await your continued support as we go through this process and look to the future. If you have any feedback regarding our future such as ideas or things you think we should be working on, please feel free to email me at director@greatriverrrescue.com.

Thank you for believing in our work!
