9 Lives Cat Adoption Special

9 Lives for $9

August 1 – August 29

$9 ADOPTION FEE ON SELECT CATS

Beginning Saturday, August 1st, all cats 9 months old or greater will be available for adoption for just $9!  The special is part of a wide national effort through the Best Friends of Animals Society and its network partners.  The goal of the special is primarily to help even more cats than ever before find homes with responsible pet owners.

Currently there are about 20 cats that will be part of the “9 Lives” adoption special.  These are cats like Walla, a two year old female cat that has been with the shelter for over 9 months.   “Our goal is always to get our animals into homes as quickly as possible,” said Executive Director Brandon Mustful.  “Nine months is just too long for a great pet like Walla to have to wait.”  Every cat that will be adopted is spay/neutered prior to adoption, is current on vet recommended vaccinations, has been tested for disease, and been given preventative care treatments.  According to Executive Director Mustful, the shelter spends anywhere from $100 to $500 or more per cat to take care of them while they wait for their new homes.

The shelter will also have other cats, kittens, and dogs available for adoption during the rest of the summer.  The normal adoption fee for a cat is $75 and the fee for a dog is $175.  In addition to the adoption special, August is “Sponsor-a-Pet” month at the shelter.  Adopters and other supporters are encouraged to sponsor-a-pet to help the organization continue to provide high quality care for animals in need.

Great River Rescue, a non-profit, was established in 1977.  Over 10,000 kittens, puppies, cats, and dogs have been adopted from the shelter since that time.  A no-kill shelter, it can house up to 45 felines and 25 canines and maintains a waiting list of animals to be surrendered.  Located at 1612 Carr Lake Road, the shelter is open from 12:30 – 5:30 PM, Tuesday through Saturday.  Executive Director Mustful can be reached at bhsoc@paulbunyan.net or 751-7910.
